An ode to frozen friendships

‘What is the single most “you’ll understand it when you’re older” thing?’

Some redditor wrote, ‘Friendships fading away.’ And this gave me the feels.

~~

Mostly forgotten, but a whiff of nostalgia was born

Rare as seeing a shooting star on a pink dawn

Bringing back memories of those myriad conversations

The jubilation of near youth, the rush for tomorrow and no patience

An instant joke, those interrupted byes

Those arguments that now reason defies

Dreams of a different sort, ones that colored the awake mind

Everything is possible, a way is easy to find!

Of passions and ideals,

Of promises and seals.

Forever seemed possible —

The breath of it seemed trivial.

If one was lost, the other would stay

Together we held each other, and saw troubles fray.

I know what a river feels now, all streams start that way;

From knowing every thought then to an almost stranger today.

The moat of time has grown bigger, we are not what we used to be

But the past is still a treasure — not quite forgotten — of you and me
